As the UK works to meet housing demand while responding to climate change and biodiversity loss, regenerative approaches to new housing and retrofit can help create healthier communities, restore nature and generate long-term local value.

UKGBC’s Regenerative Places Framework for Housing has been developed to support this shift from within our current system. Developed through engagement with a wide range of stakeholders across the built environment and beyond, the Framework sets out the key transitions needed, where and how projects can create long term local value, and the pathways to embed these approaches.

At this launch event, UKGBC will introduce the Framework and its core principles, share learning from the engagement process that shaped it, and hear from practitioners who are already applying regenerative approaches in real-world projects.

Following its official launch on the 16th September, UKGBC will be hosting an additional online launch for the Framework. This event will launch the UK Climate Resilience Roadmap: Stakeholder Action Plans, which provide actionable, stakeholder-specific action plans that will advance the implementation of the Roadmap across industry.

After a summer of record-breaking temperatures and multiple heatwaves across the UK and around the world, the case for climate resilience has never felt more urgent or been clearer. The UK’s built environment is facing an urgent reality: climate hazards are no longer future threats but immediate dangers.

Launched in June 2025, the UK Climate Resilience Roadmap is more than a call to action. It is a robust, evidence-backed strategy for adapting to climate hazards, equipping stakeholders across the built environment with the tools needed to achieve long-term resilience.

Following the UK Climate Resilience Roadmap’s success in providing a vision and direction for climate resilience in the built environment, the Stakeholder Action Plans provide practical and clear sector-specific actions to further support the delivery of the Roadmap and accelerate long-term resilience across the built environment.

You’ll leave with a clear understanding of how the plans can support practical next steps to strengthen the resilience of your assets, operations and services in the face of climate hazards, as well as how the industry can work together to tackle the climate resilience challenge.

The Stakeholder Action Plans have been developed for 8 specific subsector groups in the UK built environment:

In September 2025, the Commercial Retrofit Innovation Map was launched as part of the collaborative project, and this new report builds on that foundation. It details the practical way the map was applied within a live project environment, outlining a repeatable, step-by-step approach to the innovation review and selection process.

Providing a tough test case to tackle, No. 1 Poultry is one of the City of London’s most recognisable landmark buildings and the final work of renowned architect James Stirling. Its scale, complexity and prominence make it a powerful showcase for innovation, demonstrating how sustainable solutions can be integrated into real-world commercial assets. The report also details the decision making influences and criteria on the project, as well as the list of solutions selected. 

By making both the process and solutions visible, the project aims to support wider adoption across the industry, helping teams embed innovative solutions with greater confidence.
